Before fully enforcing HTTPS, it is advisable to ensure that your DSM device has a valid SSL certificate. Without a trusted certificate, web browsers may flag the DSM interface as insecure, even when HTTPS is used. Synology offers a built-in tool to request and manage certificates via Control Panel > Security > Certificate. You can request a free certificate from Let's Encrypt directly within DSM, provided your NAS is accessible via a registered domain name and is reachable over the internet on ports 80 and 443. Alternatively, you may import a certificate from another Certificate Authority (CA) if your organization uses its own PKI infrastructure. Once a certificate is installed and designated as the default for DSM services, it will be used to encrypt HTTPS traffic.
