In the UAE, the area code in a landline number denotes an emirate or a place in which such a number is registered. In principle, these are area codes that essentially make the process of identification easier for the caller about the location of a call within the UAE and have implications for both local and international dialing. Each emirate has its own code, which makes it quite easy to differentiate between regions.

1. UAE Area Codes Explained
Typically, UAE area codes are one or two digits and  UAE Phone Number Data  are followed by a seven-digit phone number. Unlike mobile numbers, which are not location-specific, these area codes indicate that a landline is from a fixed geographic area or emirate. In other words, the area code acts like a prefix that identifies what part of the country the landline is located in.

2. Important UAE Area Codes by Emirate
The UAE is composed of seven emirates, each with an area code assigned to it:

Abu Dhabi (02): Abu Dhabi is the capital and the largest among the emirates; its landlines use the 02 area code. The area code, therefore, encompasses the entire emirate, which includes the capital city and also suburban and rural areas.
Dubai-04: The 04 code is for Dubai-the most populous city in the UAE and the business and tourism hub in the country. It is among the most used area codes in the country because of the high concentration of businesses and residents within the city.

Sharjah (06): As Sharjah is an emirate bordering Dubai, the city takes 06 as its area code. This encompasses the northern emirates: Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah, since they are relatively smaller in terms of population size and area, so it would be more practical and efficient that they share the same area code.
Ras Al Khaimah (07): Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, located in the north of the UAE, whose area code is 07.
3. Importance of Area Codes for Calls
Area codes are very important in making calls, both locally and internationally. For the local callers in the United Arab Emirates, an area code is only needed when one calls outside his or her emirate; for example, a caller from Dubai must dial 02 to call a person in Abu Dhabi. For international callers, the area code is used along with the UAE country code +971.

4. Importance to Business and Residential Communication
Area codes also have a very practical implication for businesses and residents. In this regard, knowing the area code will enable people and organizations to identify whether a caller is a local one or one calling from another emirate, which may be convenient in business and personal matters.

More specifically, UAE landlines area codes are significant geographic information that gives each telephone number the specific name of its emirate. In addition, they are required for proper routing of every call whether inside or outside UAE to make communication across regions clear and effective.
